Do You Do These Things In Your Car?
For many drivers, being in the car can feel like a comfortable second home where you can sing to your heart's content. We spend so much of our time in cars, at times we don't even realize we've adopted many habits from having to drive so much. So if you've never given it a second thought, let's take a moment to review. Here are 20 hilarious things most drivers do that we think you do too.
1. Give Up On Parking
There's nothing more embarrassing than feeling the eyes of cars behind you while you try (and fail) to nail your parallel parking in one go. We've all been there, messing up too many times and having to give up out of sheer shame. Maybe it's time to go work on your parking skills.
2. Have A Staredown At A 2-Way Stop
Are you going? Or am I? Sometimes, it feels like no one knows what they're doing at a 2-way stop. Instead of going on your way, it ends up with two cars staring face-to-face with each other waiting for the first person to make their move.
3. Judge Others On Their Parking
It's funny how we tend to feel both sides of the coin when it comes to parking. We feel extremely embarrassed when we mess up ourselves, but we aren't afraid to hold back our judgment when others struggle. Don't lie — we know you've shaken your heard or smirked at someone who was doing a terrible parking job before.
4. Use Cupholders For Everything Other Than Cups
Used to hold our keys, napkins, snacks, and whatever small miscellaneous items we carry with us in our car, it seems like our cupholders are always great at holding everything other than drinks. How many times have you sat in your car wondering which thing needs to be removed to make space for your coffee?
5. Lock Your Car More Than Once
We know we just pressed the button and heard the beep of our car locking, but for some reason, we feel the need to click it a few more times. As you step away from your car to head into the grocery store, it's not uncommon to hear the ringing of 3 or 4 beeps as you triple-check that your car is locked and safe.
6. Try To Open The Door When Locked
Let's be honest, some of us double down on safety even further. When hearing the beep isn't enough, we need the visual and physical reassurance that the car door won't budge open. After pressing the lock button, the hilarious way we confirm it is by giving the good ol' door handle a quick pull. If you can't get in, no one else can, right?
7. Sing At The Top Of Your Lungs
Strangely enough, driving in the car gives off the same effect as when you're in the shower — you can't help but belt out your favorite tunes like no one's listening! It's safe to say all of us transform into Mariah Carey when we're on the road. We know all of you are hitting those high notes like it's nobody's business.
8. Pretend Like You Didn't Just Hit The Curb
Oops, did you accidentally turn in too far and hit the curb? Well, if no one else saw it didn't happen right? We all hilariously love to pretend that we didn't just make a mistake when we're trying to park. What people don't know won't hurt them and we'd prefer saving ourselves from embarrassment.
9. Ignore Parking Spots Near The Front
There's no clear reason why we do this but many drivers love circling around the parking lot, ignoring the spots up front and ending up far in the back. Whether it's out of nervousness in messing up or enjoying the emptiness farther back, we can't help but wonder why we don't just go for the first empty lot.
10. Trail Others For Their Parking Spot
We usually don't give it much thought, but the image of trailing a family or individual around the parking lot for their spot on a busy day is pretty funny. We desperately go at 5 mph, following their slow walking pace in hopes of finally getting to park. The worst part is when you realize they're not leaving yet at all and you've just wasted your time.
11. Accidentally Make Eye Contact With Other Cars
There's something hilariously intimate and awkward about accidentally making eye contact with others on the road. The quick way we shift our eyes away as if we did something terrible or embarrassing is strange behavior everyone seems to exhibit. It's almost as if we crossed some line!
12. Yell At The Drive-Thru Speaker
Drive-thrus are super convenient means of getting food without having to step out of our cars, but you know what's not nice about it? For fast food workers, it's having drivers shout into their ears when the speaker is right in front of them. Apparently, we're all pretty worried about not getting our orders heard because we tend to speak volumes louder whenever we're ordering.
13. Talk To Ourselves
From muttering small annoyances under our breath to giving ourselves full on pep talks, there's something that feels so safe about being alone in your car. Sometimes, we're just our own best driving buddy.
14. Forget That Cars Have Windows
Sometimes we feel so safe, we forget that cars have windows and others can see what we're doing! From doing embarrassing actions like picking your teeth to scratching your armpits, many people online have claimed to have made these mistakes before.
15. Worry About Holding Up Left Turn Lanes
Stuck at a busy intersection trying to make a left turn? Do you feel your anxiety building up as the number of cars waiting behind you grows and grows? Even if you know you can't go yet, we all share that nervousness in praying for an open opportunity where the eyes are no longer all on you.
16. Finding The Perfect Playlist
Before you can head onto the road, you're not allowed to start your car without the perfect playlist already going. We're just kidding of course, but many of us love finding the best set of tunes for our mood before driving away. It's basically a requirement at this point.
17. Judge People's Car Choices
As we drive on the street, many of us love commenting on other peoples' rides. From dreaming they were ours to commenting about how dirty the exterior is, the roads are full of conversation starters we can't help but participate in.
18. Think About How Much We Hate Driving
It's funny how as we drive, we often think about how much we hate it at the same time. Whether someone just cut you off, there's busy traffic, or heavy construction, we're always so focused on all the negatives. We wouldn't be surprised if you mutter a few "I hate driving" as you cruise down the road either.
19. Parked Crooked
Is it just us or do you also always end up slightly crooked on your first parking attempt? As you look in the side mirrors, everything looks perfectly in line, but as you open the door and stare at the lines on the ground, they range from slightly to terriby slanted. It might be a quick fix but it's a hilarious struggle many drivers face.
20. Complain About Cyclists
As far as the internet is concerned, drivers and cyclists are sworn enemies. Neither party ever has anything nice to say about each other! As a result, it's not unusual for drivers to make a quick comment at cyclists who don't follow the road rules whenever they pass by one.
